The United States and Canada have a plethora of airports on their territory, many of which the traveler arriving from abroad will have the opportunity to practice from time to time. Here is a look at ten North American airports…<\/p>\n

Boston<\/h2>\n

Name: <\/strong>Logan International Airport
Code: <\/strong>BOS
Distance: <\/strong>5 km east of the city.
Number of terminals:<\/strong> 4
Network and traffic: <\/strong>Even if New York is not far away, Boston airport is rather dynamic, including internationally, and especially in Europe with many services including Paris. In all, each year Logan welcomes about 40 million passengers.
Transport downtown and other : <\/strong>subway and streetcar, ferries, buses and shuttles, cabs.
Good to know: <\/strong>Logan has one of the best and most varied transportation systems for an airport. So much so that it is regularly voted “Easiest Airport to Get To” in the United States.

Chicago<\/h2>\n

Name: <\/strong>O’Hare International Airport
Code: <\/strong>ORD
Distance: <\/strong>27 km northwest of the city.
Number of terminals: <\/strong>4
Network and traffic: <\/strong>More than 200 destinations on five continents and 80 million passengers for this airport which is in the Top10 in the world in terms of traffic. It must be said that O’Hare is also the base of two giants of the US airline industry, United and American Airlines.
Downtown transportation and more: <\/strong>train (Blue Line), buses and shuttles, cabs.
Good to know: <\/strong>as often in large cities, there is a second airport: Midway Airport. Even if its traffic is rather important (more than 20 million passengers), it is only focused on domestic flights or Mexico.

Las Vegas<\/h2>\n

Name: <\/strong>McCarran International Airport
Code: <\/strong>LAS
Distance: <\/strong>8 km south of the city.
Number of terminals: <\/strong>2
Network and traffic: <\/strong>The Las Vegas airport is one of the most dynamic in the country, with a traffic largely focused on the US-Canada even if there are also some services to Asia or Europe (but not to France). In the end, McCarran welcomes about 50 million passengers\/year.
Downtown transportation and other : <\/strong>buses and shuttles, cabs.
Good to know: <\/strong>we are not in Las Vegas for nothing! Even at the airport it is possible to play, in particular with the slot machines.

Distance: <\/strong>30 km southwest of the city.

Network and traffic: <\/strong>With more than 80 million passengers\/year, an extensive global network (including Paris) and a base for major US airlines, Los Angeles airport generally ranks in the top 5 busiest in the world.
Downtown Transportation and Other : <\/strong>subway (via free shuttle), buses and shuttles, cabs.
Good to know:<\/strong> Even if the L.A. region has half a dozen airports, only this one has a real international vocation. For the others, even if the Ontario International Airport or the John Wayne Airport have connections beyond the country, these are limited to Mexico or Canada. For 99% of travelers, it is through LAX that things will happen.

Miami<\/h2>\n

Name: <\/strong>Miami International Airport
Code: <\/strong>MIA
Distance: <\/strong>13 km northwest of the city
Number of terminals: <\/strong>3
Network and traffic: <\/strong>The MIA is 45 million passengers\/year for more than a thousand daily flights, both domestic and international, primarily to Latin America and the Caribbean. It is also the base of American Airlines, one of the most important airlines in the world.
Downtown transportation and other : <\/strong>trains-RER (2 lines), buses (6 lines) and shuttles, cabs.
Good to know : <\/strong>If Miami is often proposed from Europe as a stopover to go to Latin America or the Caribbean, it is not necessarily the best choice for those who leave France. Prices, flight times, US formalities to be expected, make that the report of these connections through Florida are often less than the flights with change proposed via Madrid.

Montreal<\/h2>\n

Name : <\/strong>Montreal-Trudeau
Code : <\/strong>MTL
Distance: <\/strong>20 km southwest of the city.
Number of terminals: <\/strong>2
Network and traffic: <\/strong>Air Transat and Air Canada base, the airport offers a fairly good choice of destinations in North America, the Caribbean and Europe, especially when Air Transat serves various French cities in the summer. All this makes Trudeau the third Canadian airport (behind Toronto and Vancouver) in terms of traffic with 20 million passengers\/year.
Downtown transportation and other : <\/strong>Via-Rail train (free bus to the station), buses and shuttles, cabs.
Good to know:<\/strong> No need to worry if you want to fly to Montreal in winter. Trudeau airport is regularly designated internationally as the best in terms of snow removal and de-icing of runways and aircraft.

New York<\/h2>\n

John F. Kennedy International Airport<\/strong>
Code: <\/strong>JFK
Distance: <\/strong>26 km east of the city.
Number of terminals: <\/strong>6
Network and traffic: <\/strong>JFK is New York’s main airport and one of the first in the country – and even in the world – with over 60 million passengers. It also offers the best and widest choice of airlines (it is the base for several, including Delta and American) and destinations to five continents. It is also the first in North America for international traffic. In short, Kennedy Airport remains “New York’s airport”<\/em> to which one will have the best chance to fly, especially coming from Europe.

Good to know:<\/strong> The AirTrain JFK is a 13 km automatic shuttle departing from the airport, which allows you to quickly and easily connect to the New York subway and commuter train system. It is, in general, the best way to get to downtown NY City or its surroundings.

Newark Liberty International Airport<\/strong>
Code: <\/strong>EWR
Distance: <\/strong>24 km southwest of the city.
Number of terminals: <\/strong>3
Network and traffic: <\/strong>It is the second major international airport of New York with 45 million passengers. It is located in Newark, New Jersey, across the Hudson River. Like JFK, it offers a choice of companies and destinations around the world, but at a lower level than its competitor. However, coming from France, you will have the opportunity to land there if you fly with United, which has made it its base, or if you have taken one of the airlines that serve New York from Orly.
Downtown transportation and other : <\/strong>train (via AirTrain Newark), buses and shuttles, cabs.
Good to know:<\/strong> as for JFK, the AirTrain (3 km of automatic shuttle) is connected to the New York rail network and remains the best way to get to\/from the city and its surroundings.

LaGuardia Airport<\/strong>
Code: <\/strong>LGA
Distance: <\/strong>13 km east of the city.
Number of terminals: <\/strong>4
Network and traffic: <\/strong>It is the least known of the three big New York airports. It is specialized only in domestic flights to the US, Canada and two or three Caribbean islands. This does not prevent it from receiving 30 million passengers\/year. Coming from Europe, one will have very little chance of landing there unless one has previously transited elsewhere in North America or made a domestic flight, for which it offers a certain choice.
Downtown transportation and other : <\/strong>buses and shuttles, cabs. As for the other airports in the city, an AirTrain is planned for 2025.
Good to know: <\/strong>Even if it has some international connections, LaGuardia has the particularity to have neither customs nor immigration services. The formalities are done directly at the foreign airports served.

Toronto<\/h2>\n

Name: <\/strong>Pearson International Airport
Code: <\/strong>YYZ
Distance: <\/strong>23 km northwest of Toronto.
Number of terminals: <\/strong>2
Network and traffic: <\/strong>it is by far the main Canadian airport with its 50 million passengers\/year and half a dozen companies, including Air Canada, which have made it their base. Quite logically, it offers a good service to the country and to the neighboring USA, as well as quite a few flights to the rest of the Americas (among others during vacations) and to Europe.
Transportation downtown and other : <\/strong>trains, buses and shuttles, cabs.
Good to know: <\/strong>we don’t necessarily think about it, but it is also possible to go through Toronto to go to the American West if you didn’t take a direct flight to it from Europe.
