Swiss : The basics
All means of transport are available to travel to Switzerland: plane, train, car and even boat up the Rhine from Amsterdam.
Locally, public transport is very efficient and very organized. An identity card is sufficient for nationals of the European Union. The current currency is the Swiss franc. The cost of living is much higher than elsewhere in Europe: an average meal will cost about 30 € and a hotel room minimum 100 €. But you can fall back on youth hostels, which often offer double rooms and are much cheaper, or rooms in private homes. Another solution is the principle of "farm vacation", which combines pleasant and moderately priced. The food is quite correct in Switzerland: You will enjoy the delicious melted, scraping, Rösti and Bündnerfleisch, not forgetting of course the famous chocolates. For shopping, be aware that shops close early Swiss in general, about 18:30 on weekdays and 16H or 17H Saturday. |
