City in north-east Italy, Venice has over 270 000 inhabitants. World Heritage Site by Unesco, it is world famous for its canals, but also for its carnival and landmarks such as Piazza San Marco and the Doge's Palace.
From a wealth of outstanding historical, it also occupies a special geographical position, in a lagoon from the Adriatic Sea, and over a hundred islands, which has conditioned its structure with its 177 channels and hundreds of bridges, the pedestrian and his boats, the water-buses and traditional gondolas, as the only means of transportation.
