Main city of Sicily in Italy, Palermo has over 700,000 inhabitants. It is located on the north coast of the island, bordering the Mediterranean, and is crossed by a river, the Oreto, and surrounded by peaks.
Its climate is typically Mediterranean with mild winters and dry and hot. Built in the 8th century, the city has a rich history, with influences Phoenician, Roman, Byzantine, Muslim, and Aragon and Austria. Today, it is served by an airport, highways, a rail, and port is active. To move around the city itself, there are two subway lines.
You can visit several interesting museums, like the palace Abatellis, the Regional Archaeological Museum, the Ethnographic Museum in the Sicilian, the Museum of Contemporary Art, among others. Many monuments are also worth your interest: for example the Norman Palace with the Palatine Chapel, Church of St. John of the Hermits, Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, the Quatro Canti which is the center of the city with its Baroque houses, Piazza Pretoria, but also the Botanical Garden and the catacombs of the Capuchin convent.
