The sunniest island in Greece, with over 300 sunny days per year Crete presents strong contrasts in climate. The climate is Mediterranean with hot, dry summers on the northern coast. The back country, mountain, is more akin to continental. The southern coasts are sunny winter storms with short spring and a particularly mild. The weather settled in April, the tourist season starts at Easter and lasts until late October. The months preceding the summer season and the hottest are the most pleasant for walkers and lovers of walks both in the sea that the average altitude. The summer months are often a good wind (the Meltemi) which moderates the heat solar. September, who can benefit, will be very pleasant away from the tourist influx. It is always good and swimming is still put in a sweet Wednesday. |

What to do ?Island identity very marked, Crete is a destination of choice, both through its history than its beautiful landscapes, but also for the warm hospitality of the Cretans once you leave the cities. Crete (kriti) : The basics
You will easily fly to Heraklion via Athens.
An identity card is sufficient for EU nationals. The current currency is the euro. The budget provision is relatively low, although rising slowly but surely: a double room in a proper pension will cost about 50 € and an average meal between 10 and 20 €. Feel free to practice the famous Cretan diet, which relies on the fact that Crete is one of the places of the world where we saw the oldest! There are no particular health problem. Protect yourself from the sun, because like all the islands the wind you often forget that the sun knocks hard. For traveling within the island, the buses are quite effective between major cities. There are also water taxis connecting the coastal areas inaccessible by land. Bike and scooter can be very practical, the ideal being the car but watch the road wich is rather bumpy. |
