What to do in Canberra : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
Capital of the Australian federation, Canberra has about 350,000 inhabitants. See Australian Government, the city was built in the early 20th century around a lake, and has vast areas of natural vegetation. It is bisected by the river Molonglo.
The city is also an important cultural center, across several institutions, such as the National Gallery of Australia, National Library and National Museum. Other sites may also deserve ample interest to tourists: the National Botanical Gardens, the zoo, the aquarium, the National Dinosaur Museum, the National Center for Science and Technology. But you can just as easily visit some historic houses, tracing the lifestyles of early European settlers.
What emerges is essentially the city a sense of calm, due to its balanced architecture and its verdant aspect, and proximity to nature: it is not unusual for kangaroos crossing in the city, which is a rather unique experience!
