The climate is obviously subject to the sheer size of the land: Summer is from September to March in the south with very high temperatures, heavy tropical downfalls can occur at times.

Winter lasts from June to September with warm temperatures.

Approaching the equator, the climate becomes more pleasant in summer with temperatures of around 30°C, a tropical breeze and less humidity.

You can visit the country throughout the year although it is best to avoid Rio between December and February when the atmosphere can be stifling.

What to do in Brazil


Although the name Brazil brings the Carnival and festivals to mind this is far from being its only attractions: Nature is also omnipresent in all its magnificence from idyllic beaches to vast forests.

The overpopulated city of Rio de Janeiro, at the same time a symbol of festive music and the great misery of its favelas (shanty towns), is both hectic and joyful. From Manaus, Capital of the Amazon, you can take an expedition to discover the Amazon jungle, its rivers and forests. Numerous travel companies offer this opportunity. Take a walk through the old town and discover the market and the Opera House.
 

Brazil : The basics


The simplest way to get there is getting a plane that lands in Rio.
European citizens do not require a visa for a visit of less than 3 months, a valid passport will suffice.

The currency in circulation is the Real.
The budget you need to plan for is a little higher in the high season: A double room will cost around €40 and a hearty meal less than €10, even less in restaurants where you pay by weight or the bakers shops where you eat standing by the counter.
