Bolivia has a surprisingly diverse geography. Its climate can be divided into two main seasons: winter begins in May and ends in October while the summer season is between November and April. Winter in Bolivia is fairly dry and the temperature is mild during the day but can drop considerably at night. The cities of Paz and Potosi are often faced with a time of intense cold and performing most of the time of snow. In summer, it rains throughout the country during the months of October through March. The heat from the sun can make room for large floods, especially in the plains, which often causes flooding in the Altiplano region. Especially towards the end of June until early September that tourists come to mass in Bolivia because it is the holiday season throughout the country.

What to do ?


Between legendary landscapes and fascinating cultures, Bolivia occupies a special place in the imagination of the traveler.

La Paz, the capital of the world's highest, immediately plunges the visitor into another world: its people to wear colored clothes, its magnificent monuments as the Church of San Francisco, various museums, the witches market, will leave you speechless. A few kilometers, you can explore the canyons of the Valle de la Luna, the blue-green lakes of the Zongo Valley, and the pre-Columbian archaeological site of Tiwanaku.

Cochabamba is a relaxing stop using its privileged climate and its peaceful location amid the hills to discover the cathedral, the archaeological museum and the convent of Santa Teresa.

Lake Titicaca is a necessary step in your journey: its 36 islands and deep blue water, traces of the Inca culture, the town of Copacabana and white cathedral, the reed boats of the Islamic Suriqui, funeral towers the Islamic Kalahuta, make it a place of many and exciting discoveries.

Tupiza is not a typical western decor, and you can admire the surrounding desert areas, planted with red rocks and cactus, steep cliffs at the foot of which rivers flow clear and villages in the ground red ocher.
 

Bolivia : The basics


It is cheaper to travel to Bolivia by road via a neighboring country, you have rallied plane (Argentina and Peru).

The EU nationals do not need a visa if staying less than 30 days.

The currency in circulation is the boliviano.

The budget plan is very modest: a double room will cost about twenty dollars at a decent hotel, and you spend less than 5 € for a meal.

Health precautions to take are those countries' development: no tap water, no ice, no milk, no vegetables. Watch any episodes of diarrhea may be sign of cholera. Beware of altitude sickness (the soroche) at risk of malaria to below 1800 m and the Amazon basin. The universal vaccines must be updated and it's nice to add those against yellow fever, typhoid and hepatitis A.

Traveling within the country can get on a plane, but they are subject to frequent delays and cancellations. Trains do exist but are very slow. Getting on board a truck can be a convenient solution, much used by locals.
