The climate separates the year into two main seasons: The dry season from May to October and the rainy season from November to April. But the latter is divided into two periods: A light rainy season in November and December, and a heavier rainy season in March and April.


The highest temperatures are experienced between December and February. This is, however affected by the geographical areas: The high plateau of the interior is characterised by a more tropical climate and the coast by an equatorial type climate. The dry season is a very pleasant time to visit Tanzania, but less favourable for discovering the animals of the Serengeti.

An animal kingdom full of untamed nature; Tanzania take us back to the origins of mankind. However, before venturing into the national parks, Dar Es-Salaam, the capital, will surprise you with its diversity of cultures: the port with its dhows and cargo ships, the Kariakoo market, the national museum, the botanical gardens and the Oyster Bay beach are some top places to visit.

Kilimanjaro Park is obviously a fundamental stopover of your journey: The mythical volcano with its eternal snow, surrounded by forests inhabited by leopards, buffalo and elephants, it serves as a backdrop for amazing, but difficult, hiking.

Other legendary place is the Serengeti National Park: There you can admire the unforgettable spectacle of the gnu migration, but also giraffes and lions. Do not forget your binoculars.

The island of Zanzibar is another incontestable attraction of Tanzania: A stroll through the old city of Stone Town with its bazaars and mosques, a visit to the Marhubi palace, the Jozani Forest, make a stop on its heavenly beaches, discover the dhow building yard in Nungwi and the dolphins in Kizimkazi; all will leave you with amazing memories.

The airport Dar Es-Salaam is served by several airlines.

The currency in circulation is the Tanzanian shilling.

The required budget will be quite reasonable if you do not include the national parks tickets. You can eat an average meal for about €5 and find a double room for €30. However, parks entry costs around €50: Do not forget to include this in your budget!

In relation to health, a vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory and also the normal vaccinations against typhoid, hepatitis A, meningitis and rabies. Take measures to protect yourself from malaria, drink bottled or boiled water, wash your hands before handling food, peel fruit and vegetables and avoid shellfish and milk products.

For transportation inland, there are small airplanes that visit the national parks, as well as buses.

Popular objects to take home as souvenirs include coffee, ebony sculptures, coloured glass jewellery, semi-precious stones, pipes, spices, traditional fabrics, pottery and soapstone objects.
