The climate can generally be described as temperate, especially in the large central plateau region.
However, heat waves can affect the Red Sea and the surrounding area to the east and also in the west in the area bordering Sudan. The rainy season is between June and September but mild rains begin around March and April.
The average temperatures are around 20 °C, all year round, you can therefore visit Ethiopia in any season, but best avoid June and July when rainfall can be heavy.

What to do in Ethiopia


Ethiopia is a fairly poor country with a tourist potential that is just about ignored, it is a charming country in many ways with varied landscapes and hospitable people despite their abject poverty.
The capital, Addis Ababa, is large and has some must-see places: The Ethnological Museum, the National Museum which houses famous "Lucy", the stained glass of the Giorgis cathedral, the vast and cosmopolitan market which seems to sell everything, these are just some of the main attractions.
The Simien National Park offers hiking fans beautiful landscapes inhabited by all kind of animals including baboons, jackals, and bearded vultures. The area is watered by rivers flowing into the green grasslands: You can book several days to explore this fascinating area on foot or by mule from Debark, north of Gondar.

The surrounding areas of Bahar Dar are also worth a visit: The small islands of Tana Lake with their secular monasteries and the Tissisat Falls, 400 m wide, are especially beautiful between October and December.
Finally, the seven lakes of the Rift Valley offer you an opportunity to discover a beautiful and fertile valley with a rich and varied wildlife, especially regarding birds and crocodiles, and there is the thermal springs of Wondo Genet where you can take a pleasant swim.
 

Ethiopia : The basics


By air is the easiest way to travel to Ethiopia with Ethiopia Airlines.
A visa is required.
The currency in circulation is the Birr.
