Winter sports resort in the Tarentaise valley, in Savoie, Val Thorens was born in 1969 (laying of the first stone) and his village is located at 2200 meters above sea level, which makes it the highest resort Europe. It depends on the commune of Belleville and belongs to the ski area of the Three Valleys, and it is reached by the road that extends the A430 from Albertville, or by the TGV that arrives at the station of Moutiers from Paris, Lille or Nantes, or landing at Chambéry-Savoie airport. A cable car and a chairlift also leave from the commune of Orelle, in the Maurienne valley. The station was created from scratch on a virgin site and was inaugurated in 1971: it is semi-pedestrian, and cars can only park in parking lots. Free shuttles can be used for travel in the village. Very well equipped, the resort offers 300 000 holidaymakers who attend every winter a large sports center, a bowling alley, snowmobiles, bars, night clubs, games rooms, and its capacity is read more 30,000 beds, but it is considered one of the most expensive in France. It offers 150 km of slopes (out of a total of 600 for the Three Valleys), a 70,000 m2 snowpark and the longest toboggan run in the country with 6 km. Many other activities than skiing are possible, such as canyoning, paragliding, ice hockey, climbing, zip lining, ice diving, but also cinema sessions, workshops for children, concerts.
