What to do in Irkutsk : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants
A city in Siberia, situated by the side of Lake Baïkal, Irkoutsk has around 650,000 inhabitants. It is actually its position beside the lake that makes it so popular with tourists. The city centre has a number of wooden houses that have a certain charm and there are a few places that are worth visiting such as the Museum of Fine Arts with its icons and wooden religious sculptures, the Karl Marx road which is the main artery of the city and where the Theatre of Dramatic Arts and the Ethnographical Museum can be found, there is also the White House built in Empire style which is now the city’s scientific library. You may wish to go to the Raketa jetty and take a mini cruise on the Irkoutsk Sea. Do visit the Taltsy Museum about 40 kilometres away which is an open air 18 the Century rebuilt village with traditional style buildings. A number of restaurants and hotels are scattered around the city ensuring you should find food and lodging to your taste and budget.
