What to do in Fes : Tips, places, hotels and restaurants

FesFez, located in northern Morocco, is also the third largest city in this country: Imperial city classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, it has a real architectural wealth, but also offers an undeniable change of scenery, giving the during an unforgettable trip to a past splendor that superbly through the centuries. It has about one million inhabitants, and has a Mediterranean climate influenced by the presence of nearby mountains, which gives it a rather important freshness in winter, and sometimes very hot in summer, between seasons remaining the most pleasant for sightseeing. It is accessed by a remote airport about ten kilometers from the center, but also by train from all major cities of Morocco, and by motorway from Rabat. Fez is still considered the cultural capital of Morocco: the medina is one of the largest among Arab cities. The city has managed to modernize while preserving its historical heritage and its refinement. One enters by its beautiful medieval gate, and then we discover the old city where blue is the dominant color, the famous blue of Fez. Stroll through the medina to discover the artisans and their products will be one of the key occupations of your visit to Fez, but also explore the Batha Museum, former royal residence from the 19th century and today has become the museum of arts and popular traditions, or madrasah Bou Inania, beautiful Koranic school which will admire the architecture. Then visit the Fez el Jadid district, part of the city built in the 13th century, which is a kind of city within a city: you will find the Royal Palace and its huge field with its gardens and its mosque, you cross the old Jewish quarter with its beautiful synagogue and beautiful houses, then browse the Grande Rue de Fez el Jadid with its souks, having crossed the vaults of the vast Bab Smarine. Do not forget to visit the Andalusian district, especially his mosque, remarkable monument dating from the 9th century.
